Alpenglow Gear Alpenflow Fuel Transfer Valve
Description
Transfer fuel between canisters with a device that weighs less than a penny
The Alpenflow Fuel Transfer Valve by Alpenglow Gear is an ultralight little gadget that saves weight and waste. The Alpenflow was dreamt up by Alpenglow founder Tom (a.k.a. "Gadget") along the Pacific Crest Trail after seeing piles of semi-filled fuel canisters in hiker boxes. Consolidate your stash, split fuel with friends, or score a free boost from a hiker box. If you forget how to use it, instructions are printed right on it, making it easier to use in the field. It’s so light that even the gram counters will consider it worth its weight to bring.
Saturn Update: The ‘Saturn’ revision incorporates feedback from thousands of trail miles to make transferring fuel even easier. The core technology is the same, but the geometry has been adjusted to make setup easier and the product harder to lose. The Alpenflow is still the lightest fuel transfer valve in the world and the only one capable of emptying canisters with rusted or stripped threads. It’s called the Saturn Revision since it has a ring like our sixth planet.
Features:
- Instructions printed right onto the device
- Taller walls improve alignment and reduce damage to the pin from off-angle application
- Keyring loop for adding a lanyard
⭐How to Use
1. Cool your recipient canister.
- This transfer requires a pressure difference to push the upper liquid fuel down into the lower canister.
- The donor canister can be warmed in the sun: never use an oven or flame (Warning: Only do this if cooling off the recipient isn't possible).
- The larger the temperature difference, the faster the transfer will occur.
2. Place warm canister on TOP, cool canister on BOTTOM (no threading needed).
3. Ensuring the stack is vertical & aligned, press down hard for 5-10 seconds or until the fuel canister is filled to about 85% volume.
4. Repeat as needed, especially if filling a near-empty lower canister.
- Once the warm donor fuel mixes & warms the lower liquid fuel sufficiently, the transfer will slow & eventually stop.
Please read the instructions and safety warnings to understand the risks when using.

⭐Warnings & Safety:
-
To mitigate the risk of liquid butane expanding when canister is heated, never fill beyond the original fill level (~80%). Fill level weights to aim for:
- Small 4oz fuel: 7oz | 200g
- Medium 8oz fuel: 12.7oz | 360g
- Large 16oz fuel: 23.6oz | 660g
-
Fuel canisters do not meet D.O.T. requirements for commercial transportation after refilling (a.k.a. it’s illegal for businesses to transport refilled canisters).
-
Never use a flame or oven to heat canisters.
-
Never fill canisters with pure propane, and only transfer “winter mix” fuel (70% butane / 30% propane) into canisters rated for winter mix fuel.
- Please wait 30-60 seconds between applications to allow the foam seals to thaw and
rebound. Immediately transferring without pause can lead to torn and permanently
crushed seals. - Fuel canisters are illegal to fly with, even if empty.
