JRB 12′ x 10′ Universal Tarp

This large JRB tarp is the most capable tarp available for either hammock or ground camps. Loaded with perimeter tabs, ridge line tabs, panel pulls, pole grommets and spring pole guides, this tarp may be configured to conform to nearly any configuration required or desired — all for 17.5 oz.

About this tarp

It is an ideal shelter for large and wide hammocks like bridge style hammocks. It can be pitched in a classic “A” with either open ends, or closed ends for storm protection. Interior volume is easily expanded by use of panel pull tie-outs. Or, interior volume can be increased by the addition of spring poles (separately available) to create either a single hoop or a tunnel style shelter.

Pitch options

• Gathered end hammock users can arc the center area with a single spring pole.
• Bridge style hammock users can use two spring poles to create the tunnel style sought by many. In either case the ends may be closed or nearly closed for storm protection.
• Open pitches like the “Baker” style lean-to or the three sided Adirondack shelter are also possible.
• In classic “A” pitch it can easily accommodate 3–4 ground campers with a generous overhang. It can be pitched high and wide for maximum overhead shelter, providing almost 120 square feet of overhead cover if needed.

Seam sealing

Our tarps ship unsealed. Every sewn seam is a row of needle holes, and silicone-coated fabric can't be factory seam-taped — tape won't bond to silicone. In a passing shower you'll never know. In an all-night soaker, water finds them and starts dripping, generally onto the one thing you wanted dry.

Sealing closes them. One tube, one evening, done for the life of the tarp. We recommend Permatex 81730 Flowable Silicone Windshield and Glass Sealer applied with a 1″ foam brush — we sell the two together as the Tarp Seam Sealing Kit.

How to seal it

Hang the tarp or lay it out flat. Starting at one end of the seam, run a bead of silicone about 5 inches long. Drag the brush from the start of that bead along its length to spread and thin it out. Once it's spread, lay down the next 5-inch bead and repeat. Work your way across to the other end of the tarp.

While you're at it, dab a small bit of silicone on the stitching at each panel pull. Optional, but it's the same tube and it takes a minute.

WARNING: Silicon-impregnated nylon is flammable, please use caution near open flame.

CAUTION: Nylon will age and break down prematurely if exposed to continuous sunlight (ultra-violet light). Do not leave nylon products set up in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.
