Description
A Guyline Extension is a 24" length of 1.6mm 100% UHMWPE cord with a loop at each end. It goes between your guyline and a rock anchor so the extension takes the abrasion, not your guyline.
When you use rocks to anchor your shelter, the rock can easily saw through your guyline. 100% UHMWPE handles abrasion far better than standard guyline, and it's light enough that carrying a set of extensions isn't noticeable. When one finally wears out, swap it and keep your guylines intact.
- Need more reach? Join two extensions loop to loop for double the length.
- You can also split one guyline to two stake points to spread the load.

There's no single correct way to use the guyline extension. To help get you started, here are a few practices we commonly use.
Ways to attach the extension to the guyline:
- Use a girth hitch.
- Use a quick-release knot.
- Pass the extension through the guyline loop and fold it in half.
Ways to attach the extension to a rock or stake:
- With the extension folded in half, pass the stake through both loops.
- Girth hitch the extension around the rock.
- Wrap the rock as shown below; this works when one end of the extension is already secured to the guyline.
